The Death Watch Torch soldier is loyal to the commander of the Death Watch, Pre Visla and his Lieutenant Bo Katan. They are a faction of Mandalorians resistant to the pacifist ways of Duchess Satine, and dedicated to returning their people to the true warrior way of Mandalore by any means necessary.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. This Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue and red. Please visit the Detachment website for more details on these options.


General Construction Notes for ALL Armor
3D printed components have no visible print lines and are smooth for a realistic appearance.

Torch_Helmet

Helmet

  • Helmet must be the �Death Watch� version of the Mandalorian helmet featuring the elongated mandibles and narrow T-visor.
  • Ear caps are symmetrical and flat, with a range finder on the right hand side of the helmet.
  • Helmet and rangefinder are dark gray with the following:
  • Mandibles, front brow, and ear caps are light blue.
  • Rear Brow fades to dark gray immediately behind ear caps.
  • Back key slot is dark gray.
  • Upper cheeks are off white.
  • There is a black circle with yellow flame logo on the front center dome, of appropriate scale as shown in visual references.
  • Helmet has a black visor, with the wearer's face not easily visible.
  • All paint is weathered to match visual references.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • A servo motor attached to the inside of the helmet motorizes the rangefinder to arc 90 degrees.

Torch_Flight_Suit

Flight Suit

  • Must be a cotton, cotton blend, or similar material.
  • Flight suit may be a one or two-piece garment colored dark gray, and must be properly fitted and shaped to the wearer.
  • Flight suit has traditional Mandalorian style double sleeves (long sleeves with short sleeves on top). Short sleeves are approximately 80% the length from the shoulder to the elbow of the wearer.
  • Must not have any visible pockets, pouches or zippers once armor is attached.
  • Neck seal should be built into the flight suit and is essentially a high collar as per the visual reference. (This is not a Fett style neck seal.)
  • Suit pant-legs will tuck into top of boot and fit closely to wearer�s ankles.
  • Flight suit must be weathered to match visual references.

Torch_Flak_Vest

Flak Vest

  • Must be made of dary gray leather, leather-like, or similarly sturdy material such as duck cloth or canvas.
  • �Jango Style� vest is preferred, however little or no shine should be present.
  • Must have two long shoulder tabs to mount the shoulder armor.
  • Vest must be short enough to stop before hitting the girth belt. (Approximately 1�2" long below bottom edge of Ab Armor.)
  • Vest is not tucked into the girth belt and allows some flight suit to show.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Flak Vest will only be made of duck cloth or canvas.

Torch_Shoulder_Armor

Shoulder Armor

  • Must be Animated Death Watch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Shoulder armor is light gray, and light blue mix (more blue than the chest armor) and should be weathered to match references.
  • Right shoulder armor has a black circle with yellow flame logo (same as the helmet dome), of appropriate scale as shown in visual references.
  • Left shoulder armor has same logo as the right but is a mirror image.
  • Armor is connected securely to Flak Vest shoulder tabs.
  • Shoulder armor flares out off the shoulders to present a wider than normal silhouette.

Torch_Left

Left Gauntlet

  • Must be Animated Death Watch style armor.
  • Gauntlets are made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Gauntlet has a seam on the inside of the arm. The indented �closure� must be worn on the outside of the arm, with an internal hinging method.
  • No hinges or rivets are seen on the outside of the arm.
  • Note this is opposite of the Bo Katan Left Gauntlet which has the indented �closure� on the inside of the arm.
  • Must be painted light gray/silver and light blue mix (like the shoulder armor) and weathered to match visual references to give the illusion of battle wear and damage.
  • The gauntlet will contain the following components as shown in visual references:
  • Four forward facing darts in front of middle section.
  • Seven buttons on the top.
  • Three of which are red and in a row; the other four are on the back row, with one white and one red and two gray.
  • On the opposite end of the upper platform from the buttons are two raised rectangles.
  • On the next platform, there is a silver grappling hook in the middle.
  • Underneath the grappling hook, there is a slot for a hidden knife to extend and retract over the wrist opening.
  • Gauntlet tapers toward the wrist.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Five illuminated buttons on the top.
  • Three of which are red and in a row; the other two are on the back row, with one white and one red.

Torch_Right

Right Gauntlet

  • Gauntlets are made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Gauntlet has a seam on the outside of the arm. The indented �closure� must be worn on the inside of the arm, with an internal hinging method.
  • No hinges or rivets are seen on the outside of the arm.
  • Must be painted light gray/silver and light blue mix (like the shoulder armor) and weathered to match visual references to give the illusion of battle wear and damage.
  • The right gauntlet must contain the following components as shown in visual references:
  • Console on the top of the gauntlet with an angled front faceplate. Two (2) silver blasters protrude from the angled faceplate.
  • The top plate of the console is slightly lower than the top of the angled faceplate and has a sunken rectangular section containing five (5) buttons:
  • Two (2) white buttons are oval-shaped and sit side by side at the rear of the console.
  • Three (3) red buttons are rectangular. The first sits horizontally across the console in front of the two white buttons and the remaining two sit vertically side by side in front of the horizontal button.
  • The main flame dispensing mechanism protrudes on the outside right of the gauntlet and has a hose nozzle on the back. A tube attaches to the back of this nozzle and sits close to the arm, running up the outside of the arm and under the outer short sleeve of the flight suit. The tip of the mechanism is painted black with proper weathered appearance.
  • The smaller backup flame dispensing mechanism protrudes on the bottom of the gauntlet and has a hose nozzle on the back. A tube attaches to the back of this nozzle and sits close to the arm, running up the outside of the arm and under the outer short sleeve of the flight suit. The tip of the mechanism is painted black with proper weathered appearance.
  • Gauntlet tapers toward the wrist.

Torch_Hand_Plates

Hand Plates

  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Symmetrical, tombstone shaped hand plates.
  • Hand armor must be mounted to the back of each hand and attach without visual straps.
  • Plates must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.

Torch_Gloves

Gloves

  • Must be black or dark gray over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile non-piling material.
  • May use Nomex pilot gloves.
  • Gloves will be tucked underneath the gauntlets.
  • No visible logos or designs may be present once hand plates are attached.

Torch_Chest_Armor

Chest Armor

  • Must be Animated Death Watch style armor.
  • Consists of collar armor, right and left chest plates, ab plate, and center diamond.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Collar and chest armor must be painted medium gray, light gray, and light blue mix. Must be weathered to match reference images.
  • Center diamond plate between chest plates must have a raised vertical rectangle. The diamond is light blue to match the armor, and the raised rectangle is silver.
  • Chest armor should line up with collar armor at the outer edges.
  • Left chest plate has two slotted rectangular indentions.
  • Ab plate sides should be just short of lining up with the bottom outer edges of chest plates, but follow the same downward angle.
  • All pieces should attach securely to the vest with proper spacing.

Torch_Back_Plate

Back Armor

  • Must be Animated Death Watch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.
  • Must have curved cutout at the bottom.
  • Should curve in towards wearer on all edges to give appearance of thickness, and sit flush against wearers back.
  • NOTE: Collar and back armor DO NOT overlap.

Torch_Jetpack

Jetpack

  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Colors for the jetpack are: light gray/silver, medium gray and dark gray.
  • Must have the following main components:
  • Left vertical tube (medium/dark gray) with cone-shaped top, horizontal ring in the middle, vertical rectangular indented or cut out notches in the base, and an indented vertical rectangular section at the top with 3 rectangular red lights.
  • Right larger vertical tube (light gray/silver) with a dark gray clamp on top starting from the middle of the tube extending to the left side then extending slightly down to cover the lip of the left top of the tube (with a dark gray circle disc or dial on top), indented vertical rectangular section (painted dark gray) at the bottom with 3 rectangular red lights.
  • Right larger vertical tube must have red/yellow Airborne logo per the show (the same logo that is on the Death Watch Airborne grunt�s right shoulder plate).
  • Right larger vertical tube must have nozzle on the lower right hand side. A tube attaches to the back of this nozzle, running up behind the outside of the right bicep and through the outer right sleeve of the flight suit.
  • Bottom horizontal thruster tube located underneath the left and right vertical tubes (dark gray) must have 7 cut out notches slightly off-centered to the left, 2 (light gray/silver) vertical rings near the ends � both ends of this tube should taper down into ball joints of the thrusters.
  • Two bottom thrusters with ball joints at the top should angle out roughly 45 degrees � thrusters should taper to get wider from the ball joints.
  • Torch back plate � All components above should attach securely to the back plate which is medium gray and has seven (7) sides.
  • Jetpack attaches snugly against the back armor in the proper centered position.
  • Paint scheme weathered to match visual references.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • All 6 buttons on the vertical tubes should be illuminated.

Torch_Girth

Girth Belt

  • Must be light brown leather or leather-like material.
  • Belt is approximately 5"�6.5" wide and should be proportionate to wearer, to accommodate proper spacing and appearance with other armor elements.
  • Must extend beyond the ammo belt on the top and bottom.
  • Girth belt should not be touching or tucked under flak vest.

Torch_Ammo_Belt

Ammo Belt

  • Must be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Must have proper segmented construction elements as shown by visual references.
  • Must be medium gray/light gray solid material (plastic, rubber, cured leather, metal, etc.), weathered to match visual references.
  • Ammo belt must attach to Girth Belt, centered from top to bottom.
  • Should be a height to allow Girth Belt to show above and below by approximately 1-inch.

Torch_Cod

Codpiece

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style armor.
  • Triangular cod piece with rounded bottom edge. Must be constructed to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Bottom must curve inward toward the inseam of the wearer.
  • Must be tucked under the girth belt.
  • Must be painted medium gray, light gray, and light blue mix to match the armor, and weathered to match visual references.

Torch_Thigh_Armor

Thigh Armor & Holsters

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra, or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.
  • Armor wraps around the outer thigh with no visible straps/attachment.
  • Must feature a solid box holster on each leg.

Torch_Knees

Knee Armor

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.
  • Must have indented arches per visual reference.
  • Armor attaches to the front of the knees, directly to flight suit with no straps or visible means of attachment.

Torch_Shin_Armor

Shin Armor

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.
  • Must fit closely around the shin.
  • Must be made of three angled sections: flat front and angled flat sides that curve at back slightly to fit wearers leg. The tops of the side segments must be angled downwards.
  • Armor attaches directly to flight suit with no straps or visible means of attachment.

Torch_Boot_Armor

Boot Armor

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style armor.
  • Must appear to be at least 3mm thick with rounded edges in order to give the feeling of thickness and depth. May be made of a solid material such as fiberglass, resin, styrene, sintra or Vac-formed ABS.
  • Armor consists of Ankle Spat, Toe Cap and Heel Cover with rectangular raised detail that wraps around back of heel.
  • Ankle spat covers the top of the foot, hiding laces if present.
  • A retracting knife slot, matching visual references should be present on the toe of each boot. The slots sit on the sole in front of the toe cap.
  • Must be painted medium gray/light gray and weathered to match visual references.
  • Boot armor connects with no visible means of attachment.

Torch_Boots

Boots

  • Must be black with silver or grey rubber sole. Soles may be painted and MUST have rugged tread.
  • Boot must be ankle-height.
  • Palladium boots Pampa Hi, in black canvas or Brahma Banjo boots are examples of an acceptable styles.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

Torch_Westars

Mandalorian Pistols (Westar 35)

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style Westar 35 Pistols.
  • Must be painted light/medium gray with a dark gray finish on the handles and slide, properly weathered to match visual references.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Blasters must have blue LED lights.

DW_Carbine_Rifle

Mandalorian Carbine

  • Must be Animated Deathwatch style carbine (long version of the pistol).
  • Must be painted light/medium gray with a dark gray finish on the handles and slide, properly weathered to match visual references.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Carbine must have blue LED lights.
