Clone troopers are an army of identical, genetically-modified clones, created to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic. Cloned and raised on the water world of Kamino, the clone troopers are trained from birth to serve as efficient military forces. They possess unwavering loyalty to the Galactic Republic and its leader, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.
This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.
Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. This Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue and red. Please visit the Detachment website for more details on these options.
- Armor is made from rigid material (e.g., fiberglass, plastic, resin, Sintra, vacuum-formed ABS, firm rubber, metal, or similar).
- Armor style is Star Wars: Battlefront II Phase II clone armor.
- Armor is painted white and blue with a matte or satin finish (unless otherwise stated below).
- Armor is weathered in shades of grey. Blue areas are scuffed to show white underneath.
- All components are proportionally scaled to the wearer.
- Please note that this costume may be eligible for membership in The Rebel Legion (RL), although adjustments may need to be made for RL approval.

- Helmet has a mohawk ridge on the dome.
- A deep blue stripe runs vertically up the front of the helmet, starting at the chin, and widens as it travels over the dome.
- The stripe tapers toward the rear and terminates above the grey indented band at the back of the helmet.
- Helmet has a brow band above the eye lens that continues around to the rear.
- Eye lens is black with an elongated, angled “W” shape.
- The centre of the visor has an extended “V” shape that continues down into the centre of the frown.
- Frown is charcoal grey with seven (7) teeth.
- Wire or plastic mesh covers the open areas behind the frown.
- Front bottom edge is rounded, with a carved-out chin opening.
- Chin vocoder is black.
- Two (2) aerators are present in the chin recess:
- Black rim
- Chrome mesh texture in the centre
- Nine (9) dark blue vertical hash marks appear on each cheek.
- Ear caps are dark grey with black inner ovals.
- A grey indented band wraps around the back of the dome.
- Helmet includes an enclosed neck ring that seals the helmet to the neck.
- Helmet has a pair of macrobinoculars mounted to it.
- Binoculars may be raised or lowered; lowered is preferred (per reference images).
- Binoculars include black gusset detail near the eye cavity.
- Binoculars include a thin black lens.
- Binoculars include a vertical blue stripe over the right eye area.

- Neck seal is black with vertical ribbing, or is smooth.
- No visible logos or labels.
- If the neck seal is not integrated into the undersuit, a balaclava or similar covering is acceptable.

- Undersuit is black, non-textured, one-piece or two-piece.
- No visible zippers or logos.

- Each shoulder has a thin, curved deep blue line on either side.
- Markings are symmetrical on both shoulders.
- Shoulder plates are teardrop-shaped with rounded edges.

- Bicep has a deep blue stripe on the outside face.
- Stripe runs from about mid-bicep toward the outer tricep area (per reference images).
- Lower rear section includes a recessed area.
- Outside front edge has a hard line that turns inward.
- Inside upper arm edge is rounded.
- Armor appears seamless with no visible assembly traces.

- Elbow strap is white silicone/urethane (or similar flexible material).
- Strap may be functional or cosmetic.
- Elbow is held with black elastic.
- Strap has a rough texture.
- Strap has a raised detail line at the top and bottom.
- Elbow armor has two parallel dashed slots on each outside edge at the strap connection.
- These slots are painted white.

- Left and right forearms are mirror images.
- A thin blue stripe runs just above the wrist opening, leaving a thin white band at the base.
- A wide deep blue stripe continues from this and runs up the top of each forearm.
- The wide stripe covers the commpad on the right forearm.
- Right forearm commpad includes:
- Eight (8) small buttons
- One (1) large main button
- One (1) slightly smaller rectangular button
- Forearm includes a flattened triangular area at the base of the gauntlet, with a ridge that comes to a point toward the top.
- Armor appears seamless with no visible assembly traces.

- Hand plates are symmetrical.
- Each plate has a top ridge that curves and comes to a point over the index or middle finger, just past the main knuckle.

- Black over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
- Gloves cover any exposed skin.
- No visible logos or labels.

- Two (2) recessed detail slots are present on the right breast.
- Chest has the blue 501st “A” detail on the front.
- The stripe continues down the chest and widens at the base (per reference images).
- The centre of the “A” includes a white vertical rectangle, broken at the top by a horizontal blue band.
- Right pectoral includes two elongated triangles pointing downward toward the abdomen.
- The top edges of the triangles are concave.
- Chest and back meet at the sides with an open gap.
- Shoulder straps sit under the chest to connect to the back.
- Straps are slotted into the detail ridges at the top connection points.

- Rear deep blue centre plate includes a detailed area with:
- Four (4) circles
- Two (2) parallel lines in the bottom left
- One (1) rectangular vent detail in the bottom right
- All recessed greeblies are painted white.
- Back and chest meet at the sides with an open gap.
- Shoulder straps sit under the back to connect to the chest.
- Straps are slotted into the detail ridges at the top connection points.

- Two inset lines divide the abdomen into segments.
- Four (4) holes (approx. 6.35 mm / 1/4 inch diameter) are present in each inset line.
- Abdomen sits under the chest and back.
- Sides are seamless; closure is at the back.
- A raised plate covers the seam and hides the rear closure.

Codpiece and Posterior Armor
- Codpiece and posterior connect at the hips.
- Hip connection includes a button greeblie appearance and the correct detailed connector shape.

- Front centre section (between boxes) has three (3) vertical rectangular indents, separated by two (2) raised rectangular details.
- Remaining belt surface is flat, with raised edging along the top and bottom.
- Eight (8) belt boxes total: four (4) per side.
- Two (2) largest boxes are at the front with an angled top surface that is higher toward the centre.
- Two (2) smallest boxes sit behind the front boxes, approx. 3 mm (1/8 inch) behind, with an angled top end.
- Two (2) medium boxes sit approx. 3 mm (1/8 inch) behind the smallest boxes, with flat top covers.
- Left rear box:
- Sits closer to the detonator
- Has two (2) square buttons in the top left
- Has two (2) dashed indented marks in the bottom right
- Right rear box:
- Sits closer to the detonator
- Has a bar with two (2) small centred cylinders
- Has two (2) dashed indented marks in the bottom left
- Boxes are notched at the back and sit flush to the belt.
- A detonator is centred on the back of the belt.
- Tube diameter is approx. 57 mm (2 1/4 inch) with wider detailed end caps.
- Seven (7) square buttons are horizontally aligned on the left side of the tube (when viewed from behind).
- From left to right: the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th buttons are painted deep blue.
- Detonator attaches with no visible clips and sits securely horizontal.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- Back section behind the rear boxes has horizontal ribbing

- Front of thigh has a flat triangular area near the knee.
- A ridge line runs from the top of this triangle up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
- Rear includes an arched indentation.
- Outer lower edge comes to a point; inner lower edge is rounded.
- Armor appears seamless with no visible assembly traces.

- Knee wraps around the front of the leg.
- A raised vertical panel is present at the top centre, painted deep blue.
- Bottom edge of the knee armour is painted deep blue.
- Knee is held by a white strap with a raised grey centre section.
- Strap wraps around the leg and connects on both sides.
- Centre strap has a rough texture.
- Strap connection includes a detailed clip.

- Left and right lower legs are mirror images.
- Front includes a triangular detail at the top and a hard ridge line down the shin.
- Rear includes an arched indentation under the calf running down toward the ankle.
- A smaller arched detail appears at the heel.
- Outer top edge has a pointed tip; inner top edge is rounded.
- Calves appear seamless.
- Rear includes a trap door access through the indentation.
- No visible assembly traces.

- Boots are white and ankle-high (or higher) so no black undersuit is visible at the ankle.
- Boots are laceless.
- A centre strip runs from toe to ankle and flares toward the ankles.
- Two (2) rectangular panels are present on top of the boot.
- An ankle band wraps across both ankles with circular protruding discs on either side.
- No visible maker markings or labels.
- Soles are flat.
Optional Accessories
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

- Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15S is smaller in scale than the DC-15A blaster rifle. Although it has a shorter range than that of the “A” model, it is easier to handle with a higher rate of fire and features a folding stock for braced firing.
- Realistic Clone Style DC-15S Blaster.
- Blaster may be scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
- Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
- Wire frame sight.
- Folding stock.
- Twelve radiator fins evenly spaced along the length of barrel.
- Igniter detail knobs.
- Charge magazine clip on right side.
- Total length is approximately 26 inches (66 cm).
- Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is incorrect.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- Charge magazine detail on clip is metal to gun metal grey in color.
- Detail bolts and screws are metal to gun metal grey in color.
- Igniter knobs have some copper coloring.
- Blaster is weathered.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
- Functioning Blue LED is installed in barrel.

- Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15A is a Tibanna gas cartridge powered weapon. Hyper-ionized blue plasma bolts are more than capable of penetrating armored units. Exceptionally effective against both droids and contemporary targets.
- Realistic Clone Style DC-15A Blaster Rifle.
- Blaster rifle is scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
- Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
- Flip up sight in down position.
- Ten radiator fins are evenly spaced along the length of the barrel.
- Power setting adjuster detail lever.
- Sniper Scope attached under rifle in storage position.
- Charge magazine clip on left side.
- Igniter detail knobs.
- Total length is approximately 55 inches (139.7 cm).
- Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is not allowed.
