First Order Crew consists of Non-Commissioned officers assigned to the bridge of a starship or command centres, These crew members monitor and coordinate overall functions.
This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.
Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. This Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue and red. Please visit the Detachment website for more details on these options.

First Order, Crew, Tunic, Black
- Fabric is a medium weight Black shiny material.
- Tunic is fitted to the wearer.
- It has a vertical closure seam in the center on the front. Closure mechanism is not visible.
- It has a tall mandarin collar and is snug fitting, a modesty panel may be present.
- Sleeves are long and end at the wrist.
- There is a hem at the bottom of the tunic of approximately 1".
- The front hemline is approximately 1" longer than the back and sides. The sides of the extended hemline are tapered.
- First Order bicep patch and rank insignia are fully sewn down on the left arm.
- Epaulettes are approximately 2" wide and present on each shoulder. These are sewn to lie flat and go from the collar seam to the arm seam.
- There are two L-shaped seams on the front of the tunic, one on each side. The start from the middle of the epaulettes and go to the middle of the arm seam.
- Princess seams may be present on the back of the tunic but not required.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- Epaulettes are extensions of the sleeve.

First Order, Crew, Jodhpur Trousers, Black
- Fabric is a medium weight Black shiny material. It matches the material used for the tunic.
- Flared riding breeches have semi-stiff flares in the hip/thigh area, below the tunic and above the knee.
- Flare is trapezoidal in shape and fits snugly at the knee. Flare starts at the top of the thigh and ends just above the knee
- A thin, horizontal strap is present at each hip. The front of the strap is vertically aligned near the sides of the front hemline of the tunic. It continues several inches past the hip.
- Pants feature a distinct front fly closure.
- Pockets and waist belts are acceptable, although are not visible with the tunic on.
- The legs are tucked into the boots.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- A front fly is present.
- There is a distinct pin tuck middle front of each leg.

Rank Insignia, First Order
- Worn on the left side of arm, above the wrist and below the elbow
- Rank consists of one black band sewn down to the sleeve with Aurebesh embroidered on it. The edges utilize piping or an embroidered line on each side.
- The Aurebesh spells βROE8" or "HAL4"
- Both piping (if used) and embroidery (Aurabesh and lines) are white.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- The edges are embroidered.

Officer Boots, First Order
- Knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or leather-like material, with moderate to high-gloss shine.
- There are no stretch panels, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration.
- Boot seams closely match screen-used boots.
- Soles are flat.
- If zippers are present, they are on the inner part of the boot shaft.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- Boots have a zipper on the inner shaft.
- Seams and design match screen-used boots.
