Galen Walton Erso was a human male scientist and leading galactic authority on crystallography and energy enrichment. In 13 BBY, Erso entered into Imperial service under the Tarkin Initiative.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. This Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue and red. Please visit the Detachment website for more details on these options.

• Medium-dark brown straight hair.
• Hair has an off-center part, with bangs swept to the left; in the back, the hair is off of the neck.

• Fabric is a medium weight suiting material or twill.
• The tunic is olive and mint green.
• The yoke and collar is mint green and has a matching horizontal seam across the front and back.
• Two bands of material wrap from the top shoulder around the front. The bands are as wide as the shoulders.
• A horizontal band of material sits under the shoulder bands and is visible below the collarbone.
• The back shoulders are void of adornments.
• Death Star Engineer patch present on right shoulder.
• Tunic is constructed so that there are no visible openings on the side, front, or back.
• There are code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole.
• Sleeves extend past the wrist and have no decorations, cuffs or buttons.
• Tunic is constructed with no top-stitching.
• The standing collar has square corners.
• Collar is firmly closed with no visible gaping.

• Patch is present on right arm directly beneath the shoulder.
• Patch background matches mint green fabric in color.
• Patch top design matches olive green fabric in color.

• Two code cylinders are worn, one in each pocket.
• Dosimeter style: True Dosimeter with correct clip and Blue top.

• The belt is constructed from a black, non-textured leather or a leather-like material.
• Approximately 2 inches (50.8 mm) in width, up to 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) is acceptable.
• There are no loops on the belt.
• A single silver large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle.
• The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the buckle.
• It is preferred to wear the snap to the left of the wearer, unless emulating a specific licensed character.
• The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material.
• The buckle size is approximately 2 ⅛" (66.7 mm) high and 4 ⅛" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
• Buckle is adorned with an un-notched Imperial Code Disk at the center.
• Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.

• Trousers are straight legged suit style pants without visible pleats or pockets.
• Fabric is an olive colored medium weight suiting material or twill exactly matching the tunic.
• Trouser hem should rest on top of the footwear while in a standing position; ankles are not visible.

• Ankle-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, and made of leather or leather-like material.
• There is no decorative stitching, buckles, snap tabs, or decoration.
• Shoes have conservative heels.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

• Brown contact lenses.
• While encouraged to complete the look of this character, the contact lens requirement will be waived for 501st acceptance, if the applicant cannot wear contact lenses for health related reasons.
• All persons wishing to utilize contact lenses are encouraged to first see their optometrist for a fitting.
