The Imperial Cadets of the TIE flight school.
This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.
Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. This Detachment defines additional, optional costuming details listed in blue and red. Please visit the Detachment website for more details on these options.

- The jumpsuit is closed right over left.
- The collar is approx 5cm high.
- The closure is right over left
- At the end of the closure the edges are cut in 45° angles.
- The Velcro seam is square and visible.
- The covering of the zipper is above the black belt , below the white belt .
- The Shoulder patch is black (same fabric as the jumpsuit)
- It is quilted vertical in approx 2.5cm distance
- They start at the sleeve seam and end approx 1.5 cm below the collar
- They start at the shoulder seam and end approx. at the middle of the sleeve
- Black piping and arm pockets
- Piping connects the shoulder patches in the front and is U-shaped.
- There is piping on each side in the front that begins at the middle of the shoulder
- patches, comes closer to the middle in the height of the frontal U-shaped piping and is going straight down to the middle of the thighs. There it curves to the seam on the inner side of the legs.
- A second piping can be found at the left front side. It begins at the bottom of the
- frontal U-shaped piping and ends under the belt.
- On the back there is a T-shaped piping between the shoulder patches, which goes
- down to the belt.
- On the back, below the belt there is also piping to the middle of the thighs. These
- meet the piping from the front at the inner side of the legs.
- The piping on the sleeves starts in a distance from approx. 3cm below the shoulders.
- On the top it is curved following the form of the sleeve and reaches down to the cuff.
- Black sleeve pockets are on the left and right side.
- The pocket on the left sleeve has approx 2.5 cm distance to the patch.
- The top of the pocket on the right side is on the position where the curve of the
- piping starts.
- The Imperial Cog Patch is fixed on the left sleeve 2.5 cm below the piping.
- A black rectangular name tag is fixed on the left side, at the corner of the U-piping.
- There are no other visible pockets on the jumpsuit.

- High-quality patch
- Diameter 7.5cm

- Worn securely affixed on the left side of the tunic over the heart.
- Rank insignia consists of a metal bar, black in color.
- Each bar is 15 mm height and 50mm in length.
- Rank bar is divided by black/dark lines into 3 tiles. The dimension of the 3 tiles is 9mm; 19mm; 9mm. The lines are 1mm each.

- Black Leather belt approx. 5cm width
- In the front the belt is closed with a rectangular silver buckle.
- The Buckle has a rectangular frame and is a classic bridge buckle.

- Black leather boots.
- The boots are knee high and have no decoration.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- No visible top adjustment strap.

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.
