Fearsome desert savages inhabiting the rocky Jundland Wastes, Tusken Raiders are the foremost reason Tatooine colonists do not wander far from their isolated communities. Extremely territorial and xenophobic, Tusken Raiders will attack with very little provocation. They show no allegiance to even their native world-mates, as these nomads have attacked Jawa scouting parties on occasion. Covered from head-to-foot in tattered rags and robes, Tusken Raiders — or Sand People as they are also known — brandish a deadly bladed club known as a gaderffii. They also carry projectile rifles with which to shoot at passing vehicles. The male of the species tend to be the aggressors.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

• Head is smaller than ANH and more “skull-like”.
• Head wraps are smooth in texture, like quilting cotton.
• Wraps are light tan in color.
• Wraps appear to be continuous, i.e. no loose ends visible.
• Wraps go under the chin.
• Wraps go behind the head and neck, giving a more skull-like shape.
• Wraps tuck into the neck area.
• From all outward appearances, head hardware, and leatherwork, are similar in style and construction to ANH Tuskens.
• Eyes and bloodspitters are a smaller diameter than in all other Tusken CRLs.
• Eye ring is thinner, approximately 1⁄8" (0.3cm).
• Eye openings are approximately 1" (2.54cm) in diameter.
• Two slots cut into the underside of the eyes are closer to the front, and no more than 1⁄8" (0.3cm) in width.
• The snout is built into the top inside of the mouth area.

• Neckwrap is sage green in color.
• Neckwrap has a slight fray to the edges.

• Inner robe has no center-front seam.
• Inner robe is of a lightweight canvas material.
• Light tan in color with light gray and some brown weathering.
• Stops just below the knee.
• Bottom edge not roll-hemmed and slightly frayed.
• Inner robe has sleeves that come to the wrist and tighten around the base of the glove with a draw string.

• Outer robe is shaped and in the style of a standard robe pattern.
• Robe is draped over the shoulders and arms.
• Drape on the arms should fall over the inside of the arms at least 12" (30.5cm).
• Robe is roll-hemmed approximately 1–1.5" (2.54cm – 3.81cm) to the inside, on the two arm/wrist edges.
• Robe is stay-stitched approximately 1–1.5" (2.54cm – 3.81cm) on the neck and back hem edges and frayed to the stitch line.
• Outer robe is made of tightly knit burlap, and softened to allow for a less rigid consistency.

• Gloves are olive drab in color and have no decorations, straps, logos or topstitching on the backs of the hands.
• Form fitting to the hand.
• Leather or leather-like material.
• Similar to French army winter gloves. See reference.

• Pants are drop crotch style.
• Made from a lightweight canvas material.
• Light tan in color, with some brown weathering.
• Pants are tucked into the boots.

• Boots are 8" to 9" (20.32cm – 33.86cm) tall.
• Wrapped in coarse, frayed fabric.

• Three bandoliers are worn.
• One across the chest is a 1903 pattern in medium brown.
• Second across the chest is a Boer War era pattern in medium brown.
• Bandolier is a light to medium brown and has 5 evenly spaced bullet holes in the bottom of each pouch.
• Third worn around the waist is a custom 5 pouch pattern similar to the ones worn in A New Hope.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

• The Gaffi Stick is of similar design to the (pineapple) style used in Episode 4.
