Fearsome desert savages inhabiting the rocky Jundland Wastes, Tusken Raiders are extremely territorial and xenophobic. The female of the species tend to be the clan caregivers and maintain the encampments.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.


Note: All items are weathered, dirtied, and/or tattered to simulate aging in a desert environment.

Female_tusken_mask

Mask

  • Mask is made from a rigid material.
  • The mask is a golden bronze color with hints of natural green patina.
  • Forehead portion which includes 3 “jewels”.
  • Visor with mesh wire that conceals the eyes.
  • Nose/cheek area with 4 indentations.
  • A “bib” section with 9 links on either side, Each link has an oval node in the center.
  • A long, horizontal cross member at the bottom with the same oval nodes as seen on the links.
  • There are several bones in the center of the mask.
  • A "half circle" piece completes the bottom of the center section.

    OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
    3-5 bones in the center of the mask.


Female_tusken_head_wraps

Shawl/Burka

  • The shawl is made from a tan/sand colored material which is a slightly lighter shade than that of the dress.
  • The shawl is made from monk’s cloth or a similar weight material.
  • Weathered pattern which becomes darker as the shawl progresses downward.
  • The shawl is made in layers that go straight across the front of the body and then angle downwards to a point in the back.
  • 10 sections are recommended, but less are acceptable for shorter Tuskens.
  • The edges of the shawl can face either in or out.
  • The shawl ends below the knees.
  • The shawl should be somewhat formfitting, The wearer should be able to lift their arms but still have the shawl close to the body.

    OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
    Ten sections on the shawl.
    The individual sections are sewn using an inverted chevron stitch.


DZ_Tuskenfem_Skirt

Dress/ Inner Robe

  • The dress is made from a lighter weight natural fiber material than the Shawl/ Burka and is a full skirt to the floor.
  • Dress/ Inner Robe is weathered, the bottom has the heaviest weathering.
  • The dress can be short sleeved or long sleeved (see note on Arm Wraps).

Gloves and Arm Wraps

  • Tan/ mustard colored gloves that are slightly weathered.
  • The gloves are made from a natural fiber such as cotton or leather.
  • The arms wraps are made from a gauze or muslin like material.
  • The arms are wrapped up to the elbow.
  • No skin is visible.

Female_tusken_bracelets

Bracelets

  • Bracelets are made of rigid material.
  • If made from more than one piece there is no gap between the bracelets.
  • Bronze in color.
  • The bracelets have tribal designs on them.

Female_tusken_pouch

Pouch/ Purse

  • Pouch is made of a sturdy leather or leather like material.
  • It can be rectangle or a long “half” oval.
  • Pouch/ Purse has a half circle bone or bone like clasp in the front resembling a boar tusk.

Tusken_ANH_Sash

Belt/ Sash

  • Under the pouch is a cloth belt/sash made from gauze or a similar material slightly different in color from the dress.

Female_tusken_boots

Boots

  • The boots are covered in strips of cloth.
  • The boots can be wrapped completely around the soles or have cut outs for safety.
  • The sole can also be completely uncovered as long as the boots give the appearance of being fully covered.
  • The wraps continue up the legs to ensure that no skin is visible.
  • Gauze or muslin material is recommended.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.
