Description: Chancellor Palpatine, Federation Cruiser (ROTS)
Prefix: SL
Detachment: Sith Lord Detachment
Context: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, was a Force-sensitive Human male who served as the last Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic and the first Emperor of the Galactic Empire. His entire life was the culmination of a thousand-year plan to overthrow the Republic and the Jedi Order from within. This costume is seen during Obi-Wan and Anakin’s rescue of the Chancellor after he is captured and held aboard General Grievous’ ship—the Invisible Hand.
This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.
Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

- Hair must be shorn above the collar and appropriately styled.
- It is combed straight back from a slight widow’s peak at the front. At the sides, the hair curves around until it is parallel with the sideburns. The hair slightly flares out towards the back of the head, giving wing tips.
- The hair is colored or dyed white; naturally occurring hair colors only.
- Eyebrows still have a naturally red tone.

- Make-up may be used to allow age matching.

- Floor-length full A-line coat of a black textured, distressed or crackled heavy fabric lined in gray with a cross-placket.
- Diagonally-seamed shoulder insets.
- Tall standing mandarin collar, 2 inches in height.
- Collar is edged with black matte leather or pleather piping and should stay closed so that both the left and right piping are visible, though no skin should be seen between the two sides.
- A diagonal seam starts from the side of the collar, where the usual shoulder seam should start, and reaches the front seam of the sleeve, in raglan style.
- The front panel pulls away from the left side front and is finished for a tabard-like look.
- The coat is closed at the front and lightly flares from the waist to the floor.
- Sleeves have an asymmetrical teardrop shape or “bishop” sleeves with black leather or leather-like cord trim.
- Each sleeve has a lower front opening as wide as the hand's width, it is lined in black, and edged with black leather/pleather piping.
- Length of coat is approximately one inch off the floor to reveal the points of the boots.
- The coat covers the front closure. It starts from the left shoulder seam to almost the hem. It is as wide at the bottom, as it is from sleeve to sleeve, and slightly narrower at the center, to enhance the figure. It has a slightly pointy and rounded shape at the bottom. On the right side, it goes from the center of the mandarin collar to where the shoulder seam reaches the front of seam of the sleeve. On its center portion the tabard should adhere to the torso of the wearer gently, without pulling and without standing detached from the rest of the outfit.
- Optional: shoulders may be padded to give off the structure of a proper tailored jacket.

- Tailored matte black shirt with a standing collar and fitted sleeves extending over the knuckle.
- One seam is featured along the thumb line.

Black lace-less boots with rounded toe that are either leather or leather like material or rough-out/suede.
Boots do not have any buckles or adornments.
No skin or brightly colored socks are visible on costumer when walking if using lower cut boots.
Optional: A boot that zips up on the inside of the leg is also acceptable.
