This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

SL_traya_robe

Hooded Robe

  • The floor length, loose fitting robe is made of a matte black fabric.
  • The fabric is gathered at the shoulders to create a pleated look that runs down the front all the way from the shoulders to the floor.
  • The front of the robe is open from the shoulders to the belt, creating a "V" shaped opening.
  • From the belt down, the robe is closed in front.
  • The back of the robe is somewhat gathered, but it does not have the same pleating as the front.
  • The hood is attached to the robe, and has a pointed tip. When worn up, the hood falls directly over the bridge of the costumer's nose.

SL_traya_hair

Headdress

  • The headdress is made of black leather with red trim. It is fitted closely to the head, with the widow's peak "V" shape in the front coming to a point between the eyes, just above the bridge of the nose.
  • There is a red cabochon "jewel" set into the center of the headdress about 2 cm above the point.
  • The cabochon is smoothly rounded.
  • There are six openings edged in red that go across the top of the headdress.
  • A section of hair emerges from the third opening on each side of the headdress, creating a pony tail on each side of the face.
  • The headdress covers the costumer's ears, and for a secure fit it may fasten behind the head, under the hair.

SL_traya_hairbands

Hair and Hair Bands

  • The silvery white hair is long enough to reach the chest in front and the shoulder blades in the back.
  • There are three black leather hair bands worn on each of the front ponytails.
  • The bands graduate in size from large at the top to smaller at the bottom.
  • There is a narrow strip of red trim on the top and bottom of each hair band.

SL_traya_wimple

Wimple

  • The wimple covers the costumer's cheeks, chin, and neck, and it is long enough to tuck into the high collar of the shirt or dress.
  • The wimple is tight fitting and accentuates the costumer's cheekbones.

SL_traya_makeup

Makeup

  • Light colored makeup is used to create a pale skinned look.
  • The lipstick is dark grape or burgundy in tone.
  • There are pink toned shadows under the eyes.
  • A light charcoal gray color runs from the lashes lines to eyebrows.
  • The eyebrows are gray-black in tone, and are darker than the hair.
  • Light colored makeup may be used to create a pale skinned look on the right hand.

SL_traya_shirt

Under Shirt or Dress

  • The dress or shirt worn under the robe is visible in the "V" opening at the front of the robe.
  • The fabric is a deeper shade of black than the outer robe.
  • The collar is a snug fitting turtleneck style.
  • If a shirt is used, ensure that it is long enough to stay securely tucked under the belt.

SL_traya_glove

Glove

  • A glove made of matte black material is used to disguise the "missing" left hand.
  • Alternatively, a special effects prosthesis may be worn to give the appearance of a (healed) forearm after the hand has been severed by a lightsaber.

SL_traya_belt

Belt

  • The belt is made of matte black leather and is approximately 7.5 cm wide.
  • The belt consists of three horizontal pieces. This effect may be created by joining three strips of leather, or by cutting or embossing two deep lines in a single strip of leather.
  • Two rectangular silver pieces adorn the center strip on the front of the belt.
  • The silver rectangles are approximately 2.5 cm tall and are divided into fourths.

SL_visas_boots

Boots

  • The plain black boots have no visible buckles or laces.
  • The heels are low or flat.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

SL_traya_contacts

Contact Lenses

  • While considered an essential part of this character, contact lenses are not required for 501st acceptance. All persons wishing to utilize contact lenses are encouraged to first see their optometrist for a fitting.
  • Black contacts or full sclera lenses are worn to reproduce the solid black of Darth Traya's eyes.

SL_traya_saber

Lightsaber

  • The lightsaber hilt is based on the KOTOR II style.
  • Darth Traya may carry from one to three lightsabers.
  • If bladed, the blade(s) are red or purple.
