Context: Star Wars: Mara Jade — By the Emperor’s Hand

Trained as the personal enforcer of Emperor Palpatine’s will, Mara Jade was given the title and rank of Emperor’s Hand. Having learned that she failed to eliminate the correct target on a previous mission, Mara infiltrates Black Nebula's base on Nezmi to complete the job.

This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

• Makeup is a natural look.
• Eyes have a simple blended look eyeliner with mascara.
• Lips are natural to light pink.
• Eyebrows are a dark brown color.
• Costumer’s hair or wig may be red-gold in color.
• Hair is styled with a center part, pulled back to cover the ears, and braided from the base of the back of the head.
• Braid length goes slightly below the costumer’s shoulders, and bottom "tail" of braid is folded under so it is not visible.

• Poncho is made from a light gray, low sheen, non-stretch material.
• Poncho includes a collar, approximately 1" (or 2.5 cm) tall, which has some stiffness, allowing it to stand up.
• No outside circumferential collar seams are visible.
• Poncho comes to a point at the bottom center of the front and back, with the points approximately 4" (or 10.5 cm) below the costumer’s navel in front and just above the tailbone in back.
• Bottom edges of the poncho sit approximately 5.5" (or 14 cm) above the center of the costumer’s elbow at the sides.

• Unitard is made from a black, medium sheen material.
• Four-way stretch material should be used to allow freedom of movement while keeping the unitard form fitting.
• A medium gray cuff insert of the same type of material shall be included in both sleeves.
• Front of cuff is approximately 2.5" (or 6.5 cm) long.
• Cuff goes completely around the wrist with a narrow strip going up the back of the lower arm, widening at the elbow, and ending just above the elbow.

• The knee-high boots are black.
• Boots have conservative heels and no visible laces or buckles.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

• Green contact lenses.
• This style of contact lens may be worn, if desired.
• While encouraged to complete the look of this character, the contact lens requirement will be waived for 501st acceptance, if the applicant cannot wear contact lenses for health related reasons.
• All persons utilizing contact lenses are encouraged to first see their optometrist for a fitting.

• A golden brown or light brown colored bag made of leather or leather-like material may be carried.
• The bag consists of rectangular front and rear faces, trapezoidal side faces, a triangular flap closure with a silver clasp in front, a shoulder strap, and two tubes secured to the bottom of the bag lengthwise.
• The two bottom tubes include a round silver cap on each end.
• The shoulder strap is secured to the bag by a bronze colored keeper and a trapezoidal reinforcement piece on each side.

• A blaster designed to match images from the comic may be carried.

• The Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader style hilts are not allowed.
• If bladed, the lightsaber blade may be purple or magenta in color.
