This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
This is a visual guide used for 501st costume approval, not a how-to for construction. Construction details are found at the costume's Detachment website. Measurements provided here are generalized, and not criteria for approval. All 501st costumes are proportionate to the wearer in terms of size, fit, and scale. During evaluation, both text and images (CRL and Reference) must be considered. When in doubt about a feature of a submitted costume, GMLs should post questions in the Legion forum's DL/GML peer review section.
Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below. For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

- The dark burgundy veil is shoulder length around the back and sides of the head, and it reaches midway down the nose in the front.
- The veil's fabric matches the fabric used for the under dress.
- The veil sits closely against the face to hide the costumer's eyes.
- A pattern of gold embellishment borders the bottom hem and front of the veil.

- The lipstick is similar in shade to the veil.

- The fitted overdress is made from black leather or leatherette, and it has a low gloss finish.
- The overdress includes a faint gray pinwheel pattern.
- The fitted bodice has a high funnel or turtleneck collar and wide capped sleeves.
- The A-line skirt is ankle length and has a split on the left side that starts just below the waist, revealing the red dress underneath.
- The arm holes and split in the skirt are hemmed and seamed.
- The back (inner) side of the leather or leatherette is also black in color.

- The dark burgundy under dress is made with a matte fabric.
- The full skirt falls to ankle length.
- The wide sleeves are open and reach to the mid-forearms.
- Gold embellishment borders the bottom hem of both sleeves with a pattern similar to the design on the veil.

- The black leather gloves reach nearly to the elbows.
- The gloves have four or five evenly spaced gray-toned bands going around both of the forearms.

- A dark red sash style belt is wrapped twice around the waist.
- The two wraps of the belt come together on the right hip, and then drape to form separate layers on the left side, one above and one just under the split of the overdress.
- There is no visible connection where the ends of the belt come together.

- The leather boots have no visible laces or buckles.
- The boots have conservative heels.
Optional Accessories
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

- Darkside makeup that includes purple lips and pale skin with broken veins may be worn to replicate the physical deterioration of Visas Marr.

- The lightsaber is based on reference images of the Visas Marr lightsaber, which includes a banded design at the emitter.
- If bladed, the lightsaber's blade is red.
